Studies of the sites for reforestation, perspectives for natural reproduction, and drafting the Program for Forest Afforestation in the GMFA

Analysis shows that the previously used harvesting techniques did not save the appropriate quantities of understory in the cedar-pine stands, therefore, more than 20 thousand hectares of cut areas should be afforestated. Three methods of afforestation are proposed to be in practice in the coming years: natural forest reproduction in some burnt and cut areas (7863 ha); planting young trees both under canopies of sparse tree stands and in treeless areas (3360 ha), and reconstruction of young and pole stands (mainly, potential cedar-pine stands) by plantation methods (21,858 ha). Both container and open-root larger seedlings are recommended to plant for the reconstruction of young cedar-pine stands of the GMFA.
