Studies of the sites for reforestation, perspectives for natural reproduction, and drafting the Program for Forest Afforestation in the GMFA |
| Analysis shows that the previously used harvesting techniques did not save the appropriate quantities of understory in the cedar-pine stands, therefore, more than 20 thousand hectares of cut areas should be afforestated. Three methods of afforestation are proposed to be in practice in the coming years: natural forest reproduction in some burnt and cut areas (7863 ha); planting young trees both under canopies of sparse tree stands and in treeless areas (3360 ha), and reconstruction of young and pole stands (mainly, potential cedar-pine stands) by plantation methods (21,858 ha). Both container and open-root larger seedlings are recommended to plant for the reconstruction of young cedar-pine stands of the GMFA. |
