GFMA in its first stage

April, 1993 The Memorandum Agreement on creation of a model forest in Khabarovsk krai was signed at the Khabarovsk meeting of representatives of forest services of Canada and Russia.

December, 1993. The Chairman of the Russian Forest Service and supervisors of forest agencies of Khabarovsk visited Canada to file their application for creation of a model forest in the Khabarovsk krai.

February 1994. The International seminar was held in Khabarovsk. The application for creation of a model forest in the Nanaiski district of Khabarovsk krai was discussed.

éŔĚŘ 1994 Ç. Registration of the Gassinski Model Forest Association (GFMA)

May 1995. A delegation of the Nanai people representing the Association of Northern Peoples of Russia visited the Model Forest MacGregor Association to arrange contacts with Indian Peoples of Montreal and Kri.

September 1995. A delegation of Indian Peoples of Canada visited the GFMA. A seminar was held in Troitskoe concerning issies of Nanai communities. The start of building of the Technical Center in Troitskoe.

May 1996. A China delegation visited the GMFA to study its experience on creation of a model forest to implement it in China.

ďctober 1996. The audit of the GFMA by the “Price Waterhouse Co.”. Paticipation of authorities of the GFMA in the Seminar on Model Forest Network in Mexico.

January 1997. A scientific conference on the issues of model forests, it was attended by representatives of Forest Services of Canada and Russia (including those of Komi and Karelia republics of Russia).

March 1997. A meeting of partners was held to discuss the Strategy of development of the GFMA in its second stage of activity.

June 1997. Schoolchildren of the GFMA visited Prince George, Canada.

June-July 1997. Canadian schoolchildren visited the GFMA.

June 1997. The Governor of Khabarovsk krai approved the Program for stable economic development of the area of the GFMA for the period of 1997-2005.

July 1997. Mr. Martin Hudson and Mr. Peter Besseau, representatives of the MacGregor Model Forest Association (MGMFA, twin forest of the GMFA), followed by a team of Canadian businessmen, visited the GFMA.

August 1998. Schoolchildren of the final, 3d course of the Forest School “Kartanga” completed their program of education. New schoolchildren are enlisted to attend the School.

 

The GFMA in its 2d stage

Currently the GFMA entered in its second stage of activity, and now its main goals are to achieve the independence development by means of profitable and sustainable use of its natural resources for the benefits of its residents.

The initial tasks of the 2d stage are:

  1. To identify most effective biological and socio-economic indicators of sustainable use of natural resources, and to conduct the appropriate monitoring of the condition of the GFMA forests to ensure long term sustainability (environmental, social and economic).
  2. To develop a system to support making decisions on forest management based on GIS database and data of monitoring of the indicators.

To implement the Program of support of indigenous peoples for the sake of improvement of their living standards and enterprising activity.
